Default Under Hood Color/Theme

Hey guys, well the exterior of my car is pretty maxxed out while still retaining the clean look and there is jsut a few mor eminor things to finish up interior. Im moving onto the engine bay now and am not sure what i want to do. My favotire all time thing under the hood is chrome/polished stuff. The exterior of my TA is black with red overlays and hyperdark 18's. I was thinking of staying on task and doing mostly a gloss black engine bay with red accents. Or get some gloss black and add more bling, which i really want but that comes with a price. Right now as you can see in the pic it is jsut stock with some black FRCs, red STB, red battery and some stuff polished...... here are a few options i was thinking......

Gloss black FRCs, Intake, Airbox, add red TA overlays on the gloss black FRCs, try and get my air filter black or darker.

Gloss black FRCs with reflective silver overlays, chromed or polished Weiand intake, chromed STB, gloss black airbox with grey air filter, and get some more parts like caps, steering fluid box, etc all chromed.

I like the bling the most but that will clearly be more expensive. Which route should i take to really stand out and shows and people say damn, that engine bay is sick. Input/opinions/suggestions?

an awesome set of FRC would be a great start......

black and chrome= awesome more classical, and more readily accepted
black and red= awesome, more sinister, more stand outish, but some concertives will turn there nose up if over done.

Oh def, i was thinking Gloss black on them with either the red Trans Am overlay from a side emblem if i stick to the black/red theme or a relfective silver overlay if i ditch the red. Think i should ditch the some red i have now over to polished/chrome and chrome/black more or keep the red and add a little more red along with some more chrome?

I think think the black and chrome and polished stuff is the best looking and thats what i will be going with.

I do think black and red is nice thought...IF DONE RIGHT. You have to get just the right balance of black and red and you have to get the right red. To dark and it doesnt stick out and to bright and it looks goofy. And if your gonna do red try and get the same color throughout. Not bright and dark also looks goofy.

You could make just about anything in your engine bay bling with this:

oh wow, that looks very cool. Im sure it doesnt net the same results as real chrome plating as it states its only 94% but im sure thats enough to satisfy my needs. Anyone know approx how much would be needed to spray all my caps under the hood, front support thing and intake?

This paint is applied at very low volume. It's basically just misted on. You only have to apply one coat to get the full effect. (Multiple coats will actually dull the finish.) That being said, you could pretty much do your whole engine bay with an 8oz. bottle.

As with any paintjob, the prep work will reflect in the final outcome.

It's not really the plastic that needs the most attention: it just needs to be roughed up slightly, (220 grit will suffice), to hold the undercoat. The UNDERCOAT is your main concern. You have to have the slickest, smoothest gloss black undercoat possible to get the optimum results out of that paint. Since you're asking about prep work I'm assuming you've never done any painting before: unless you're willing to put in some practice time and get good enough to achieve results that are to your liking, you're better off finding a shop or just somebody who knows what they're doing to help you with this. Even if you have to pay somebody to paint your stuff it'll still be WAYYY cheaper than getting everything chromed.

You could also do some Billet caps from MBA. Thunder Racing has them. A nice PCM cover would be nice also. Speed inc has those.

Yea i checked into the MBA stuff but found most are cap "covers" whatever that means, so i figured i would just get my stuff done. Maybe if i supply the paint i can have my dads friend who owns an autobody shop paint them for me, im sure he wouldnt charge me an arm and a leg.

might not be an option to you, but that filter is very big and dirty, and it's right in your face as soon as you open up the hood. so i'd get rid of that personally it clutters the engine WAY too much. also, heat resistant paint under the hood so u dont have to have that heat absorber, very tacky looking. change the EGR tube cover thing to red or something it looks kinda dull to me. cover all wires with a red cover or blue, since you have a blue car, it might look SICK to have all that red i did blue i think i like that idea better now, blue and chrome!

well my cars black, not blue as staed up first, lol. And yes i ditched the hood pad thing last night, so thats gone. Heres what im leaning towards right now..... keep everything how it is, gloss black my airbox, ditch the filter for a grey one if someone can tell me who makes the grey one, ive seen a few people with it, then gloss black the FRCs with red Trans Am overlays on them, chrome or polished intake and chrome my caps and other minor stuff. Sound good, any suggestions/input to that?
