Default Insurance Question

My bro got into an accident with my car. He was at a stand still coming out of a parking lot after someone waved him out. Another lady, pulled around the car that let him out and grinded(sp) along the front of my bumper ripping the license plate and cover off while bending the sh*t out the Afterthoughts Auto Mounting Plate. Now, whose fault it is doesn't concern me just yet, my parents can deal with that. But when the insurance company heard of this, they contacted my parents and asked where I parked my car while at work. They said they needed pics to show the accident wasn't very bad. Well, about 3 days later I get a check in the mail for $106, counting my $250 deductable, they figured it would cost $356 to fix the car. I need a ne license plate bracket, refinish and repaint the front of the bumper(maybe they will have to do the whole thing?) and also possibly the black plastic piece that says "CAMARO". About that piece, it isn't that bad, but the license plate bracket gave that piece about a 3 in scratch and the piece is ruined if I ever want to put the car in a Carshow, so it should have to be replaced right? so that should be at least $150 right? I couldn't find one online so I guessed, plus the bracket($20) and the frame($30) is $200 right there alone. So they think a refinish and repaint will $156 for the front bumnper, that right there is BS. And they based all their estimates off a photo of the car in a parking garage with the front bumper close to a wall. This total BS, do guys think I can do anything about this?

Also, if this is in the wrong Forum, mods you can move it as needed, I wasn't totally sure where to put it.

First off you weren't driving so you're lucky its covered in the first place..

Second off why would you file a claim for something $350 when you have a $250 deductable? That $106 is going to raise your insureance $300 a year.

Anyway, try gettin the parts used on eBay and save some money.. I would also reccommend taking it to a professianl paint shop and get it done right the first time. I've heard a seen too many horror stories about trying to save money with painting.

i agree, you should have left the insurance company in the dark about that one, if anything call the company of the person that hit your car unless it's a no fault accident.

If you're getting the bumper repainted anyway, the scratch can probably be filled with bondo. I feel bad for your car man, parking lots are the worst.

I am under my parents insurance, as is my brother and it states my dad as primary driver. Cops came and filed a report, brother got a ticket, I am not sure if my dad asked for a claim or if the insurance company did or what the hell happened, I think the lady's company contacted my company. I just know the LIED about why they were coming out to take a picture. My dad figures it should be over $500 to fix the whole thing including replacement parts, paint, etc. I will not be paying for any increase on the insurance so if my dad doesn't care about an increase, why not try to get the most out of it. Shouldn't the insurance company cut me check after I take it to a shop and get a quote then let the insurance company know what it will cost?? How can you get a good estimate from a picture...

also, my brother is fighting the ticket since he was at a stand still, his ticket was failure to yield and the lady didn't speak any english and said she had to go to the emergency room, total BS since she was driving an Astrovan, but whatever. I am not getting involved with my brothers ticket. I can't afford pretty much anything over the $250 deductable so i am trying to get what I can from the company so I can get a quality repaint.

Can they bondo over plastic? I didn't think they could, so I would need a new front grille piece
