That's why you use the quick detailer to keep it up after you do it all the first time...you shouldn't need to repeat every step every time...

The ice isn't a true polish, it only covers up the scratches and provides some extra shine for a short term fix. It's also supposedly a cleaner wax so you can't layer it on for added protection/shine, each new layer takes an old one off. It certainly looks good, but it doesn't fix anything.

Straight from the turtle wax site....
"Q: Why won't Ice Liquid dry like regular wax and polish? How do I know when to wipe or buff?
A: Ice Liquid is not a traditional polish. It contains high levels of polymer shine ingredients, a clarified carnauba wax, and synthetic and natural oils to glide on and off the paint surface without leaving swirl marks or fine wiping marks on high reflective automotive surfaces. It will not dry to a "powder" like regular wax. Ice is ready to remove when uniform wetness from application fades to a semi-wet surface. This takes 5 minutes or longer depending on the finish temperature.

Q: Will multiple coats of Ice Polish build up a finish?
A: Ice Polish is self cleaning, will dissolve old wax and polish, and deposit a new protective matrix with each application.

Q: What if my car is dull, has lots of haze and micro scratches, will Ice restore the Shine?
A: No. Ice is not a restorative polish. It is a polish designed to enhance and maintain the reflective properties of a new or like new looking finishes, exterior plastic and rubber trim. If the vehicle's finish is dull or stained, apply a scratch remover polish or a pre-wax cleaner first to remove surface oxidation. Apply Ice Polish afterward to enhance shine and add protection. Ice Polish will restore a new look to weathered plastic and rubber without the need of special cleaners."

So what you are saying is that multiple coats of "ice" polish isnt going to do anything. Right? If so what would you recommend?

Right, each coat takes the last coat off, so layering does not add to the effect. What effect are you looking for? Removing scratches and spider web marks, as well as adding shine? That is done in the polishing process with a true polish which is an abrasive and will remove scratches and shine the paint such as, say, Menzerna Intensive and Final polishes. There are tons of polishes out there, you just have to read each one to find out which ones are true abrasives and which ones just "enhance shine". You can use multiple passes with a random orbital buffer using a polish until you reach the desired leveol of shine and removal of scratching. Then you can move on to the protection stage in which you can put multiple layers of wax to protect the car. The wax stage only protects, the shining is done in the polish stage. Here is the basic order:

wash with dawn
clay bar
wash with dawn
polish (with harder to softer abrasives depending on paint condition)
wax (as many layers as you want, some waxes benefit from multiple layers, others don't)

You just gotta research what works and doesn't. There are a bunch of threads on here showing how to do all this stuff. I think one is in the "appearance hall of fame" sticky at the top of the detailing page. Hope this helps.

Do you really have to wash it again after the clay?

Ok thanks for the new info. I have looked throught on the hall of fame sticky and must of the polishs you cant pick up at a store. What do you recommend to get at a local auto parts store. And my car has no swirl marks Iam just trying to enhance the shine. So what do you recommend for a deep brillent shine on a silver car?
-Thanks Brandon

The Meguiar's 3-step should work for you then. There are 3 separate bottles but obviously marketed together with a "1-2-3" step illustration on them. I would do wash, clay, wash (no, you don't *have* to do this but it helps remove the leftover contaminants that may have been loosened by the clay but not completely wiped off with the detailer), then Meguiar's 3-step. It's cheap and should do you just fine if you don't have spider webbing or scratches.

What are the tint laws there? I might be moving out that way in a few years.

50 front/35 rear. Not enough to be worth the risk.

deffinately have to wash after claying...there is a white nasty layer of crud left over from them

i tried to the ice it was ok...has to be worked in more then i prefer. i still will take zaino over anyting. i do the whole zaino process like once every 3 months. wax like once every month, and jus use a spray detailer after regular washes....it looks amazing, always.

Yeah its not worth tinting your windows in Va. They would always pull me over in the mustang and test my windows for tint level, it sucked. I ended up driving everywhere with the windows down, even in the rain.
