Claying is something that needs to be done anytime the finish becomes unsmooth.

For a daily driver, 2 times a year is average. For a garage queen, 1 time a year is average.

It depends what brand of wax you're using and the environment you're in as to how often you should apply. Anywhere from 1-6 months.

Wow I wax like every month, and it is a garage queen, the more the better, it is great paint protection.

id recommend claying anytime before you use a PC and abrasive polishes. otherwise its not something you need to do often,
yearly ..maybe.

The 2 time a year clay is sufficient for most people. Do it in the spring and fall (or summer/winter if you like) and you'll more than likely be set for the "abusive" months ahead. Even if its a garage queen, twice a year is sufficient.

Now wax, most products give you a recommended timeframe for reapplication. As ZaneO said, 1-6 months is sufficent. Im in the group that does it more often (2-3 months) but its all in where you live, and what your finish see's as far as conditions goes. I like overkill vs underkill.

If you're using a quality wax, nothing. It just stays pretty and protected.

i use meguriars NXT...is it safe to wax with that every 2 weeks....i live in a very dusty area and although my car only gets bout 1K miles a month...it sets for a week at a time, 20 feet away from a dirt road...i used to use a car cover but noticed some fine scratches on the panels from it rubbing so i stopped useing it....NOW i just spray the car off (with just water) as needed and on the weekends it gets the normal washing befor i take it out...2 weekends ago though i went over the whole thing...claybar, wash, wax ect...so im good on the claybar for like 6 more months now?...id like to wax my car every two weeks...is that safe with the NXT?

Is it safe? Yeah.
Is it recommended? Eh, depends (mainly from a $$ standpoint, but thats another story...)

If its just sitting there, with good washings every 2-3 months for a wax SHOULD suffice. If you arent in an area where the sun is constantly beating your paint, and you have more acidity with your rain water, then its kinda overkill to do it every 2 weeks but its not going to hurt.

I use NXT and its dusty as all hell where I live. So I clay bar often and I wax every time I wash my car about every 2-3 weeks. I got used to the NXT shine, if I wash my car and dont wax it looks dull and ugly. I dust my car daily with my California Duster its insane how much dust my car picks up. I swear my car gets dustier than any other car in the lot, and I barely drive it.

Both of those could be attributed to NXT. It's known for poor durability and dust attraction.

Yeah youre probably right, I was well aware of the fact NXT doesnt last for crap. Never heard of the dust attaction though, although that would explain a lot. I do like the shine it gives, so i guess thats the tradeoff.
