Default SS hood and spoiler paint

I'm the original owner of a black 98 SS. the hood and rear spoiler look like crap (well not that bad) compared to the rest of the car. is this typical for the fiberglass parts that are "non-factory" and are added by SLP? just don't seem to have the same gloss and the hood has so many tiny paint nicks that it is headed for the body shop. should I have the rear spoiler repainted at the same time?

yes, I'm sure. I am the original owner. It has never had any body work or paint work. I think ALL the SS hoods and spoilers were painted seperatly (not at the GM plant).

My car had the same problem. SLP used some soft paint that scratches easily. Others have referred to this as "soft paint syndrome". You can buff them out but you will notice they chip, sctatch easily and do not gloss up as well. If you are getting anything else painted I would paint these as well.

Good Luck!

everything on the car is nearly perfect except for the hood and spoiler. the hood is definitly going to the paint shop. after thinking about it now, I'll just remove the rear spoiler and have that done also.

The paint is definitely crappier on the hoods/spoilers...after I finished a full Menzerna treatment with the PC, I discovered what appear to be sanding marks in the base coat of my hood. I never noticed them before...they became noticable after polishing the clear.

Most of the OEM SS hoods and spoilers are like that or become that way after some time.

Stupid SLP

The sun hits the hood and spoiler straight on,most of the time when outside. This may account for the degloss on the top parts of the car.

my problems are only with the SLP installed parts, the hood and rear spoiler. the rest of the car is fine. tops of the fenders, roof, and the rest of the hatch are all like new.

I have a friend with a mint 95 z28, less then 10k. it is never driven and is stored in his garage. I don't think he even has current tags on it. He has that exhaust.
