Default shifter boot removal

Just got my short shifter from the WS6 store and just wondering where to start removing the boot(back, side, front) Do I just slowly pull up on it? Any ways you guy found easy to do this would be helpful. Thanks

Lift the rear, slowly and gently push in towards the shifter to release the tabs, and lift up. Be VERY careful as the plastic ring can easily be broken.

you'll break it that way... and not have access to the get the bolts in very easily.

Take out the whole panel.. its easier.. lift up your center console lid.. take off the change dispenser.. there should be 2 small bolts.. 7mm if i recall... undo those, the slip off the top part of the console.. unhook the Cigarette lighter, and the ash tray light..

I did it this way and it worked great. Didn't break anything and had plenty of room to take the old shifter out and put the new one in. Much easier and faster than taking the whole center console out IMO. But the plastic ring is very brittle so take it easy.

Like stated, push the rear in a little, and it will rise up. Squeeze the sides in and lift. Top will just slide back and right out. No need to remove the whole console. Here is a page about my WS6store shifter install. It has pics from start to finish and what the console and boot look like so you can see exactly what the clips look like. Good luck. You'll be blown away by the difference.

I dont know on what planet that it's easier to take out the entire middle console rather than just the boot, but ooooook.

I twisted off the shifter ****, took off the boot, used a little manuvering (sp) to take the bolts on/off, and I was done. Easy as pie without removing the console.

Someone on here made one of out of a coat hanger looking material Not sure if it was him
Anyways.. the squeeze method works fine, before I put locktite on my shifter handle(first weekend driving) I always undid the boot to tightend the screws. After doing it about 20 times.. I broke the retainer ring in one spot. Still works fine though

Man mine came with a little tube of locktite w/the short stick. My ring is broken also so if the guy making them would like to chime in I'm sure many would appreciate it.

Considering I have done dozens of shifter installs w/o ever breaking one, I think this way will work fine.

I'm not the originator of the idea, I had remembered reading a post about it when I was first new to LS1Tech.

The original guy that designed them based it simply off the original clip, so I figured if he could do it, I could too.
