What exactly are you trying to paint?
Basic painting on plastic involves just a little manual labor of about a 400-grit sandpaper. Next get some adhesion-promotor primer and apply 3-4 coats. From there, lay very light, but wet, even coats of paint from 4-6 inches away in quick motions so you avoid any runs. Finally after allowing an hour (at least!) or so for that paint to dry, follow up with many light layers of clear.
Just painted my filler plate for my daily driver today. Comes black from GM, unprepped, so I did the above and here yah go.
Biggest tip I can give you is be patient! My first run I went spray crazy and that caused many runs in the paint and I had to start over.
