I just spray simple green over the entire engine bay, let sit for 1-2 minutes while I get my soap and bucket of water ready then spray off with hose. Been doing it since day one and the car is daily driven. These pics don't show the nitrous kit installed but it is there now and was there for the last year :

I have a blk car with no chrome in the engine bay. I do the same as them with simple green, then before I wash my car I spray the engine with Armour All, shut the hood then wash the car. After I dry my car I look under the hood and love it.
