I bought a new Firebird antenna for 70 bucks on ebay. I loved my BitViper antenna but it was a hassle with putting the car cover on. My new HU only puts the antenna up if I'm on AM or FM which is never so mine stays down.

I have an aftermarket head unit on my trans am, the universal antenna that I bought worked with blue wire from HU, but I have a friend who couldn't make his work with the stock factory harness and the monsoon system, he hooked it up two ways and didn't work right. One way it would only go up and not go back in when the ignition, the other way it would go in and not go back out again. This antenna is only $40 bucks and its real easy to install with an aftermarket head unit, you got to improvise a little with brackets and screws(all provided in package), but at the end you get a nice end product, plus this antenna doesn't make that much noise when it operates. If anyone is interested, pm me and I can point you in the right direction.... I am pretty sure its available to any one, any where locally.

I bought BitViper's shorty antenna and I have a few suggestions on installing it. I hated the adapter that it has. The dark black section in between the antenna and the base. Like the one below

So i did a few mods:

First I took out the screw inside the S2000 antenna which left a small hole inside the antenna. You can do this with some vice grips and a good bit of effort.

I had the idea to mate the antenna with the base directly by cutting off the base of the stock antenna. Which takes a while to grind off from ther rest of the antenna.

and using jb weld to glue the S2000 antenna onto the base of the stock antenna.

This wouldnt work at first because the base of the stock antenna was too thick and too long so i smoothed it out with a grinder and made it shorter.

Here's that piece installed.

I gave this piece a good coat of JB Weld and put the S2000 antenna on top. You'll have to hold it down and let the JB Weld dry for a little bit. Then leave it alone for a few hours before you drive.

Here is the finished product:

I think it looks cleaner and more stock than with that dark black adapter piece but you can check it out for yourself. And by the way my radio still works perfect but I cant say that yours will to. So do this at your own risk. Enjoy the mod.

Looks good but its permanent isn't it? Now you cant take it off if you cover your car...?
Or, do has I do and put the longer mast on if I am out in the country where reception is not the best...

No the JB Weld only mated the modified metal base of the antenna that I inserted into the new S2000 antenna, neither are permanently mated to the rubber base.

I'm glad my antenna doesnt really bother me, I dont even notice it till threads like this come up. But the electric one that only goes up when in am/fm sounds cool.

i think it looks very out of place with a trans am hatch, but looks good on the firehawk that was posted.

Uh....wow!

But the problem is that the antenna windings are attached to the threaded portion on the inside..now all you have is a chunk of rubber stuck to you base...

The height of the base has always bothed me too..but it is what it is

How is the reception versus the stock one? I bought an 8" one off Ebay and it SUCKS are far as reception goes. I like the shorty look, but it onlypicks up my local radio station best. My favorite stations don't come in very well.

BitViper.....PM me a price shipped and how do I go about ordering one from you. Speaking of "Viper", I use to have an yellow 01'. Boy, do I miss that ride

Looks ok, but I' m not really a fan of shorty antennas, I like the stock ones better, and wouldn' t want to risk losing reception. If I were in your shoes, I would intall a power antenna from a Firebird in place of your stocker.

I haven't lost any reception with this antenna...
