Quick ? Painting over paint

I got a 99 Z, I am repainting the door and quarter panel next week, real quick question to you paint guys, What is the best to use to scuff the paint? I have a good surface to paint over the color is just off and looks like *** in the sunlight. I have heard 600 then 800 grit sandpaper, and also scotchbrite pads. Please let me know what will adhere paint good and not leave visible sanding marks. Thanks.

3m "fine" pad.. Just make it dull. NO shine = good, just don't go crazy, if you get through the primer, your gonna have to re primer em.

co-sign, grab a red scotchbrite dull it out,wetsand with some 600 and youre cool, more sanding marks=more likely to bleed thru later,more material wasted
