Default Paint Question

I will be putting on some decal overlays pretty soon and I had a paint question. When I bought my car the door ta emblems and the front bird were painted red by the previous owner. From upclose they look like they were painted with a freaking brush. Do I need to remove this paint from them before I put the decals on? If so, what should I use?

You dont have to remove the paint, but a smooth surface will make them stick better.

Well I'm sure it isn't the smoothest by the way that they were painted. Is there any safe and easy way to remove the paint before installation?

I would wet sand the area that the decal will be going on. That will smooth the paint out.

There you go. Then throw a light solvent on it (50/50 IPA) to make sure all the junk is gone. Nothing to it.
