detail guys need some help...... ok guys i just bought a beater which has been sitting and not used much in its life,1991 chevy cavalier with 31k on the odometer, a real old lady car
the problem/question is what is the best way to get rid of that musty smell cars get when they sit with the windows rolled up for long periods of time
especially how do i get it out of the A/C vents, when ya turn it on its got a shot of musty smell that goes sway after a second
i know i guess i can FEBREESE the interior but what about the vents??????

Along with the Frebreeze I would also to put some boxes of baking soda and alot of crumpled up newspaper in the car. The newspaper will absorb the moisture and the odor, just change it regularly. Leave the windows down as much as possible. I don't know much about the cavalier, but is there a "box" under the dash where the a/c comes into and then out to the individual vents? Sometimes there a way to open the "box" and put some baking soda in there also?? Thats what I would try.

If you really want to get it done, find an ozone generator. Many times you can find them at a janitorial supply store. The machine will generate ozone particles that basically kill other odor causing particles.
My old firebird got moldy in the vents after sitting for a while. I used some kit that cleaned the venthilation system forget the name autozone carries it though. Febreze works wonders too.
yeah what ZaneO said...i work at a detail shop, and we have an "ozone machine" and it neutralizes all that shitty smell...kinda makes your car smell a little bit like a chlorine pool.
you can find it at any kind of Industrial Cleaning Supply store....or check a local detail shop, we rent ours out a lot.
generally just getting the whole car steam cleaned and detailed gets it all out.
