Cant Prevent it completely but you can cure it. What you would do is if you are spraying a metallic is spray enough coats to get uniform coverage on the entire car. After you have got everything covered come back in and wetsand the paint with 600-800 grit. Once you knock down all the excess orange peel you should now be able to hit the car with one final coat of base to get it ready for clear. If you were using a non-metallic color like the black or red our cars come with you could actually just wetsand the base color and then go straight to clear but since you are using metallics you will have to recoat otherwise the scratches would show up on the metallic. The most important procedure in removing orange peel would be spraying your clear and then wetsanding the clear till its completely smooth and then buffing it out with a series of polishes and compounds. This will give it the glass finish that you are going for.
