Default How much for a paint job???????

What can I expect to pay for a decent paint job???

I have lots of chips and due to a particular incident I don't like to discuss, my hodd and quarter panel don't exactly match the rest of the car.

I'd like to get it painted, but don't have no idea of the cost for a decent paint job. Now the paint don't have to be flawless, just decent.

Thanks

Maaco will do it for like 300 bucks. A pretty good shop will do it for around 1000-1500 around here. Thats if you prep the car. I always prep my cars.

DONT GO TO MAACO!!! remember you always get what you pay for, a descent paint job will cost at least $1500 for the same color without doing the doorjams or anything.

original color without hardly any body work would be around 1500-2k around here, but as you go north so do your costs lol. You should expect to pay at least 2k for a good job where they do the prep work. Unless you have experience prepping a car, you should leave it to the professionals. Maybe if you had a beater to practice on, but its the hardest and most important part of painting cars. Spraying the paint on is easy by comparison.

That is high but $5K isn't absolutly crazy for show quality paint. Just out of curiosity, what's your buddy using for paint? $250 is a real tight budget, hell even Valspar clear is up to almost $200 a gallon these days, not to mention the price of base, sealer, reducers, activators, and shop materials. Jambs getting sprayed? Is he wetsanding/cutting/buffing after? Unless he works at a shop and is swipping materials for free, I would be careful at that price. Just a heads up.

Maybe for the hood. It cost $1,000-$1250 in paint and supplies to do my car. I have the hookup rate and helped with everything but spraying, and it still cost a couple grand.

It's possible he was quoted for PPG Omni/Shopline which is still a decent product.

FWIW: Today I ordered just enough bc/cc to respray the rockers and factory fender flares on my Silverado. Came to alittle more than $175, and this is just Valspar.

Well I have to say me and my girlfriend lucked out with her camaro getting painted. Since I work in the bodyshop and detailing bussiness I have a friend that did her whole car black again. Plus did blue pearl to purple pearl faded flames on the nose for 1300 bucks. I just had to spend a weekend block sanding and buffing it. I will try to post pics somtime soon.

What's up with the "just Valspar" and "even Valspar" comments??? Valspar
is damn good quality paint and clear. Hell they're the parent company of House of Kolor and it don't get much better than that. I would be more than happy to spray my car with Valspar products. It's true you get what you pay for in paint, but DuPont and PPG are not necessary for every paint job.

Did I say it wasn't a quality paint? I've had great luck with it myself and would use it on any project. But when you compare prices it does fall in the "budget" paint category with products like Omni/SPI/Matrix/Kirker. When I said "just" and "even", I was refering to price point.

I didn't say that you did, but someone not familiar with paints might get the impression it wasn't quality paint simply because it is less than the big names.
