Default How to stop paint peeling?

Hi,

My friends car is undergoing a lot of paint peeling. Is there any way to stop it besides getting the entire thing repainted?

I mean, it's nothing horrible....but still enough to be noticed.

You can't stop paint from peeling once it's started. Paint peels mainly due to improper prep procedures before it was sprayed. Paint stick to a surface by 2 methods: mechanical adhesion and chemical adhesion. If either one of these methods were not done correctly or have failed , then paint will loosen and peel off.

this might sounds stupid... but can you put some type of clear "adhesive" on the edge of the chipping paint so that it cannot lift up anymore and keep flaking? or, even tho it wouldnt look the best, put clear tape on the edge of the paint where its flaking, to make sure nothing gets under it and keeps flaking...

just some thoughts.

I guess you could do that, but what you have to understand is the paint is not just "peeling" from the edges. It is actually "lifting" from the surface of the car. Just taping up the edges is not going to stop a chemical or mechanical failure.
