Believe it or not I was the first to do this (on the message boards at least) back in 1999 on my 1994 Z28.
I had seen a hardtop Camaro in a junkyard with the headliner off and realized they were all made to be t-topped...
I bought some tops off a guy in Hawaii and went to cutting one afternoon in the parking lot of my college apartment complex... Pretty scary $hit but with the help of a friend Mike Hayman (aka CAMRIDE on the www.camaroz28.com board, the ONLY popular board back then by the way...) we "got'er done"!
It can seriously be done in an afternoon MINUS the professional FINISHING body work (the bondo'ing of the corners and painting the roof)...
After I did mine I walked a guy through it (via e-mail) with a white Trans-Am and he did a write-up with pics (he is also the first one who realized you should leave metal to bend up into a lip, I had cut it all off and had to use fiberglass to make the lip continue) and the rest is history...
Done a few since then and it keeps getting easier (especially having learned on-line from the hundreds, maybe even thousands, who have followed and fine-tuned the process)...
SO, if a 20 year old college kid had the ***** to cut the rough off his daily driver one Sunday afternoon with NO write-up (hell, I didn't even have a dremel, I used a skill-saw and then DRILLED OUT THE SPOT WELDS OF THE BARS (now everyone else knows you can just cut the bars)) I'd have to say to you get your @ss out there and do it already
Or pay me to do it since I live in Cali (now, back then I was in Florida, screen name 5LITEREATER)...
! It makes a lot of sense to build the cars that way... MAkes putting in the t-top a built in option but makes me wonder why they simply did make the cars either all T-tops or make them with a fixed roof peice that could be easily removed to install t-tops.
Also, with the T-top holes already there, they could have offered a roof with two see through pannels on the hard-top cars. YOu wouldn't be able to remove them but you could still see through them.

Damn my little brother had tha same blanket when he was real little ......... Power Rangers FTW
