clean em real good and spray them with rubberized undercoating... stays black and is cheap at any local wal-mart

I use diluted Simple Green and a grill pad (one of those Scotch-Brite type pads with the plastic handle) to clean the plastic parts and a wire brush to get after the metal parts. Once everything is clean and rinsed, I wipe down the plastic with tire shine. If I ever get really industrious, I'll paint the metal parts with POR-15.
