Try some glass polish or a claybar.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but can you really use a claybar on glass?

for actual dirty windows, just use some elbow grease, some paper towel and any glass cleaner. if there's hard water stains on your windows and that's what you're "trying to wash off" because of white hard water marks, use some CLR (calcium lime rust) cleaner and it'll get those hard water stains off...if that in fact is what the problem is?

Yes, you can use it on whatever you want, haha. But, in reality, it does work.

This is true and it works very well. When my girlfriend wrote on my windows with shoe polish, a power washer wouldn't even take it off; but the claybar did

i've used some light rubbing compound on mine before, for mild scratches and for completely stuck on bug guts and hard water spots.

Use some rubbing compound. I used the meguires rubbing compound.. stage 2 i think and it has a little grit in it but will remove everything with some elbow grease.

On my moms truck, I washed the windows with windex and coffee filters. After that I went over them, inside and out with the Mother Cleaner Wax.. the stuff that comes with the claybar kit. Worked great. Nice shine and the glass was spotless. There was no glare and the water ran right off. Next time I detail my car, I will be doing it to it.
