Default 6.5" pad clay bar applicator

I was just looking around and found there is a 6.5" pad for a Porter Cable that will accept a clay bar. You supposedly put the 4-6 oz clay bar in the hole and turn the PC on a setting of 3 and it will do all of the work for you. Has anyone tried this yet?

I have to wonder how well the bar really stays on there though and how hard it is to keep it properly lubed. If it works right I would def. pick one up. I've seen them before just never sure how well they would really work.

Wow, if someone tries this post some feedback. I haven't seen something like that before but I bet it would cut a lot of time off my details!

I thought about trying it but I was hesitant because it seems like a pain to check and see how much gunk you've picked up and re-fold it and put it back in. It would be pretty crappy if you picked up a nice harmful piece and spun it around into your paint ... Therefore I prefer a good ol' fashioned handjob

I am not a fan of this at all, for a couple of reasons .. as SmokeySS mentioned, once you pick up some crap on the clay, you run a good chance of causing damage to your finish.

Secondly, when I am claying, I rely on the feel and the sound to know when I have the finish where I want it . by using that pad, I would not be able to hear the clay on the finish, and I would not be able to feel things with my fingertips. I usually drag my fingers along the finish, along with the clay, to give myself a good feell of the progress I am making.

no way I would use this.

i was thinking it was a bad idea also. saw the pad a while ago. i think you are supposed to lube up the pad real good and it helps to spread lube where it makes contact before the clay dries up. dont know how the clay will stay, i can see it falling out on the ground and then you need some more clay.
