Default perfectionist question.

Going to get my new car repainted in the near future. The person who owned it before me had a custom "blue/black" pearl paint job and it's pretty cool but it was done very poorly. Some of the side moldings are missing, it is chipping and cracking all over the place and it looks like someone dried it with 3000 grit sandpaper.

I'm not going to re-paint it this color but do something different, color is undecided but I'm going to the local paint shop to get some samples and paint them on some old bumpers my dad has at his garage to see what I like the best.

But the question is, I'm going to do the complete CETA again on this car. The rear valence and the b-pillar. So do I paint the metal under the t-tops black to go with the CETA or do I paint it the color of the rest of the car?

BTW I'm doing engine bay, door jams, ripping the interior out to get reupholstered so it will be painted under all the carpet, ect...

What should I do?

Id imagine it would be easier to do under the t-tops black..

I have mine white and love it with the ceta and t-tops off...

But, it should match the rest of the car.

I disagree on the matching thing. To me, it would look better being black under the t-tops. It's ugly space, what with the ruber seals and all. Might as well paint it black to get everything blending in. I've considered painting that area black on mine for a long time.

Obviously, it's merely an asthetic preference but, if you're a perfectionist and you want the paint job to like a factory job, that area should match the car's finish, same as the door jambs, engine bay, etc.

i agree with animal. it would be nice to have it match the primary color of the car, but it would look sweet if it were cleared etc. just like the rest of the car instead of dull. same with the engine bay.

see this is the problem im having. it's nice having it match the rest of the car, but I hated it when I took my t-tops off and the b-pillar was black and the rest of the area was red. I might just wait until the day I get it painted and make an impulsive decision lol thanks for the input!

do it all opnce and do it all right the first time. you'll regret it otherwise. even if it means pulling the motor to do the engine bay. and doing the door jams, and the t-top area as well. you will feel much better about it in the long run. it will cost though

It will look more factory if it is painted the same color as the car but I think it will look alot better painted black. It looks like crap with all the seals being black and the middle not.

i know it's a lot of money to paint a car, my dad used to do it for a living. I am going to do everything at once, just gonna save up my money until I have enough to do everything I want. I did spend a couple hundred today a few different colors of paint to test out. But I want to make sure I get the color I like the most! Looking at swatches doesn't do it for me. I'll prolly end up painting it the car color, it's just a very ugly spot on the car

it SHOULD be black. On camaro's with black b-pillers, its black under there, regardless of the color of car. That would be the 'factory' way to do it.

Id leave the top part painted black. Me and my buddy agreed the other day that having the top part black looks like sex.
