Default Wet Sand ???

Can I wet sand my tail lights? I am going to do my headlights this weekend and wanted to make sure it was safe to do on tail lights as well.

I figure I'll start with 800 or 1000 and work to 1500grit. then use that 3 step novus plastic polish.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I went sanded my tails and then used my PC to bring them back to their former shine.

Yes, it's safe and that's the best way to remove haze off the headlights. Same process, and same awesome results.

I wet sanded my export tail lights and they look like new now, they were really bad before from being baked in the Okinawa sun for ten years.

It's perfectly safe, same process as the headlights.

So how did they turn out and how much time do you need to spend with each grit and how long does it take to hand sand these things?

I wouldnt use anything but 2000 grit. That will be enough.. Always make sure that the lights stay wet! and polish it out with a PC or rotary with some 3m polish that takes out 2000 grit sandpaper marks..It will look great!!

That can't be stressed enough!

As long as you walk up the grit being sure to remove all the marks from the previous grit you will be fine. Depending on your area, you may have to go to a special store to find all the in-between grits.

On my exports, I removed the casting marks and stamped letters. Started with 400 on a sanding block for the marks & letters. Then by hand 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. Keep them all wet and make circles not back and forth. Follow with a good polish. I use Novus 3 step, always with good results.

I would recommed finishing with 3000 grit before buffing or polishing, it'll turn out that much nicer.

Is a PC a buffer of some sort? If it is, do the lights have to be finished with a buffer or can they be polished by hand to get the haze off?

You can polish by hand if you want but you won't get nearly as good of results as with a PC (that's a random orbital buffer).
