Default Sand blast LS6 Intake??

Is this safe to do? It has been painted 2x and I need to paint it the color I want. So is it safe to sandblast this lightly to remove the old paint?

Thanks!
Dave

I can't see why not, the worst that could happen is it gets pitted a little. Just tape up all the openings ect.

That is kinda what I thought. Tape it , blast it, sand it , paint it, blow it out really good with an air hose on the inside when done.

i used aircraft? stripper on mine. it's the stuff you can get at autozone.

as long as you don't let it sit on there for an enormous amount of time, it won't eat away at the intake. it makes the paint chunk right up. i used a toothbrush and high pressure water to hit up the crevices that i couldn't rub off with my finger.

hmm....I might try that then. Just let it sit, and then hit it with the pressure washer

i just put it on for a few minutes and then hit it with a regular hose holding my thumb over the end to rinse everything off. i did this a couple times until it wasn't hacking it, then i busted out the toothbrush and gave a couple quick blasts with the pressure washer.

you dont have to sandblast it. The ls6 intake is made of polyurethane. sand will eat that away faster than paint. You have a few options here. One, just paint on top of it. Paint is only a few millimeters thick theres plenty of room for a third coat. If anything you got some great primer and sealer right now. Or the second option which is media blasting. You can get a soft compound plastic bb or crushed walnut shells. These were engineered and designed for use on plastics and fiberglas where sand is usually too ruff. Where ever you take it to have it blasted ask them what they recomend. One time in auto class i wanted to sand blast my ls1 intake and my teacher wouldnt let me. He said to media blast if anything. Just my .02

I might try the stripper method first. Its got spotty and chipped paint so just going over it wont work right
