Default Is detailing worth it????

I have a quick detailing question for you guys since I truly don’t know crap about it. I have a black z28 with some major swirl marks and in need of a good buffing. I have a buddy of mine that does really good work and will recon the whole car for like 150 bucks. Now my car sits outside yr round and gets quite dirty, I also have a dirt drive way . But I try to wash it once a week at least. So I want to know would it be worth it for me to have it done? I mean will it still look good after washes or will it look great for a day and like crap again once it gets dirty and wash it. I just don’t wanna put money out and in a weeks time you wouldn’t even know it was done. Thanks guys.

if done right the swirls should not come back, so after he's done it would still get dirty just the same, but i guess the question is do you want a dirty car with swirl marks or a dirty car without swirl marks

I detail cars on the side. This is my personal car. It's an SS but sold that hood and got a stock Z28 hood to use until my Sonoco gets here.

You tell me if it's worth it...

Before...

A Half Way Through After Shot...

The Whole Way Through After Shot...

(That's the reflection of my ceiling from my hood in the garage.)

Man that looks amazing! I am not in any doubting what detail does to the way ur car looks I am just asking if it will last for a good amount of time even w/ the car sitting outside. I have seen cars done that look great forever but the have never seen a drop of rain or anything like that. I just don't want to feel like I am wasiting my time / money on doing it. That being said I'm sure I'll do it anyways lol.

The amount of time it will last depends on how well you take care of it ..

If you wash and dry it correctly, and never take any shortcuts, and correct issues when they first appear.. then you can maintain almost any car at whatever level you initially get the paint polished.

understanding that certain things have an effect on the paint, no matter how well you take care of it, namely UV, pollution, other external contaminants.

The majority of swirls are induced due to poor washing and drying techniques.

Learn how to do a proper two bucket wash, and a touch free drying process, and you will be much better off, and well on your way to maintaining the improvements that you friend will do to the car.

Here's the run down of what a full exterior detail means to me...on my car.

Wash with Sheepskin Wash Mitt and 4 Star Ultimate Auto Wash
Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay
Wash with Sheepskin Wash Mitt and 4 Star Ultimate Auto Wash
Menzerna Intensive Polish With Cutting Pad x 2 with PC on 6
Menzerna Final Polish With Polishing Pad x 2 with PC on 6
Wash with Sheepskin Wash Mitt and 4 Star Ultimate Auto Wash
Klasse All In One with PC on 3
Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze with PC on 2
Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax by hand

I put the klasse cleaner and sealant on the car because I use the Souveran carn. wax which doesn't last that long BUT looks kick *** on black and red cars. It's not a daily driver. Mine is out no more than 5000 miles a year only really makes appearances at the local street racing...err...track events on Saturday nights and the occas. car show a few times a month.

For a daily driver, I would do everything mentioned above in my process except for the carn. wax. I would substitute it for a more durable synthetic wax that can take the abuse of your daily grind. Reguardless, the car WILL scratch if not washed and dried properly like previously said on this board.

My car was covered in scratches when I bought it and it only had 9000 miles on the odometer. Someone took it to a pay and spray. I call it a spray and pay. It was horrible. I've put over 50 hours into my paint and have finally got it where it needs to be to make me happy. I still touch up occasionally because you WILL have scratches reguardless. I think I just have OCD.
