Because most of them arent talking about the cheapest kit they can possibly buy, or they're talking about going Bi-Xenon kits where they get high and low beams.

But if you go with projectors, and not just a ballast/ignitor you know damn well $500 aint going to touch that surface (unless you get a hell of a deal) that setup will cost you at least ~$800.

Same here, I put a set in my Jeep and they don't last a year even, I keep replacing one side, then the next... they are definitely brighter than stock though, but I would say no comparison to a true HID kit. Also no comparison cost wise...

Total..................................... $411.30 + shipping for HID kit

My brother and I recently installed the Hella 90mm H9 projectors in my Formula. I don't have the HID kit though (I am considering it though).

Is that going to get you an OEM style install with the cutoff line and everything? If so, thats the best price Ive ever heard of.

Last time I looked, to make it an OEM style install with sharp cutoff and everything it was going to be right under $800 to get it on an LS1 Camaro. (that may have been a Bi-Xenon price vs straight low beam conversion, but I could be wrong)

Yes.

I read through some threads over on Full Throttle V6 and gave it a shot.

My install was slightly different and involved plenty of fitting, adjustment, and manually raising and lowering the headlights (to facilitate said fitting and adjustment). I tried to avoid removing the headlight lids, but in the end, I had to to gain access the back of the housings. I used 4 #8 1.5" stainless machine screws/bolts and three nuts stacked to space the Hella adapter in front of the headlight frame for each projector. So, in total: 8 bolts, 24 regular nuts (for spacing), 4 nylock nuts to attach the Hella adapter to the bolts that were sticking out like studs. I'm probably not explaining to well and a picture is worth a thousands words. I'll try to take pics later in the day. The head light frame is cast aluminum. It cuts (and cracks) easily. A drill and dremel (I used a Black & Decker RTX) will cut through it fine. I cut mine pretty much like in the pictures, but after all the adjustment, I realized that I didn't need to cut quite so much. I'd say, mount the adapter ring, then the projector in the ring and see where it makes contact and needs to be clearanced before cutting or drilling extra holes. Pull the headlight motor fuse and manually raise and lower the headlights to check for clearance in front and behind the projectors to make sure the glass doesn't hit the bumper and that the bulb connector doesn't hit the frame behind the headlights. Make adjustments to the new mounting assembly and projector adjuster screws as necessary. Its a tight fit, but they do fit.

Here are the pics of my installation:

(Warning: 23.8MB)

Here are the night pictures:

(Warning: 10MB)
The night pics don't include beam pattern pics, but there are some beam pattern pics in the Full Throttle V6 threads.

BTW, those are the standard Osram H9 bulbs that came with the projectors.

I'm still working on a shroud to cover the empty space left over around the projectors.

I'm assembling a Lighting FAQ with the help of WhiteBird00 and SCRWS6. Hopefully It'll be ready soon.

Sorry for the

Side Note: The Hella 90mm H9 projector is a Halogen projector, but there has been some debate as to whether the only difference between them and the HID version is the base. I don't know either way, but the font glass does say H9/D2S and some people have fitted HID D2S capules into them with success (by modifying the base). An H9 HID retrofit kit would not require modification though. Your mileage may vary. There will be more info in the FAQ.

I dont think its a thread jack VIP1, my #s were off and you clairified that. I'd rather have it stray off-topic a sec, and get the right info out.

Looks like a nice install tho!

Thanks.
There are cheaper setups too. SCRWS6 used a different projector and HID kit for a total of $255.
