Default melted taillamps? wtf?

so i go downtown as usual this morning and park in the usual parking deck. get out of the car, take my stuff out of the trunk, and as i set them on the ground i notice my pass side taillamp lens looks funny. looks like there's a big dip in it? wtf? then i was like, "that should be smooth." i looked at the other side to compare and wtf, that side has the exact same mark. it looks liek it was either melted in or pushed in 1/2" somehow. it's still dark out when i get to work and i was late, so i had not time to take a closer look at it. anyone heard of this? i'm thinking someone held a lighter to the lens till it melted?

god damnit.

The taillights in my old 02 Z were the same way. I was thinking the bulbs were getting pretty damn warm and heating up the plastic enough to warp it. Someone would have to hold a lighter on them for a while, so I doubt that is what happened

Have you ever used those 'taillight covers' in the past or currently?
This is a common thing that we've read about with the Camaro application in the past, but it usually happens because of the taillight covers that people use.

BINGO!

Damn I just noticed mine after taking the tailight covers off. I'm not happy. Where is the best place to get some OEM replacement covers. I'm not into the ricer aftermarket ones.

Mine looks like someone came up from behind and pushed the car with a brush guard or something. I've got flat spots that are softball size.

mine has tail light covers, went to take em off cuz I really don't like them much, "on there when I bought it" and mine are warped behind them also, nice big dents like you describe, so... for now I leave them on tell I get some exports or some oem replacements.

That's weird. I've had blackout covers on my Z for 8 years and my tails still look brand new.

I have had blackout covers on mine now going on 2+ years and zero issues. I did have aftermarket front clear turn lights melt, but they started aftera week. Not sure what could cause a all of a sudden issue with that..could it be wrong replacement bulbs?

when i bought my car, the taillights were also like that. i thought that was normal and how it was supposed to be until one of my buddies pointed it out to me. for me, its not that bad, so im not worried about it. im not sure if the previous owner had covers on it or not.

It really didn't bother me that much so I left them alone. My car never had blackout either so beats me
