Back from Buttonwillow Raceway.. pics
What a fun day.. I went to the 6th annual Hotchkis open track day at Buttonwillow with the SS..
The car did great and really performed well.. I pushed it had but not so hard as to go off track (didnt want to spend 3 weeks cleaning out the dirt).. Suspension felt good and I was hitting 115 in the straight!
Fun moments.. following the Centerforce blown C5.. kept up pretty good and he barely pulled me in the straightaway..
Sharing the track with a brand new Lambo..
Note: car was BRAND new so driver was taking it easy.. cost was around $350,000!! V12 engine
Passing a blown silverado truck in the straights.. and shooting through the Esses!
It was funny since a lot of people recognized the car from the previous weekends Super Chevy show and the magazine.. the comment was usually "are you going to take that on the track?" I guess people dont expect that I actually use the car as it was intended.. trailers are from broken cars!
Oh, a guy approched me and said he shoots for Hot Rod magazine.. thought my car would look great on the cover (or inside) and gave me his card.. only problem would be if his editor didnt want it cause it was in Super Chevy but he felt confident since a lot of changes had been made since then!!.. Cover of Hot Rod would be the ULTIMATE.. either way it was quite a compliment
Other cars there included Vipers, BMW's (M's & M3's), a lotus, lots of vettes, mustangs galore (including one that f'd up his engine trying to race me on the way to the track.. a litteral KILL story)
Here is one of the many "race cars" that showed up
This stang competes in the silver state and other open road events.. FAST!
At the end of the day I was BEAT!!.. now to go swap back in my street brake pads..

Noah,
Yea, run that thing out there next time.. there was a basicly stock red SS on the track and he did pretty darn good..
Yea, felt good keeping up with the blown vette on straight
my wheels were almost black from the brake dust..

What kind of lap times are you running; and what track configuration. When I run in the AFM with my GSXR 600 I am running a 1:53 minute lap. We run clockwise. We go over the hill and take the small decreasing sweeper that spits you right into the esses. I am curious to see what kind of times cars are running.I know guys are running in the 1:48's on bikes. I would love to get my car out there.

It was a non-timed event.. if I had know it would be an issue I would have had someone time me.. I feel that I was running pretty good.. Next track day I will bring a stopwatch
