What does it smell like? Does it have a smell or is it just water?

its water dude. DONT park on a hill with the nose down, and check ALL your weather stripping. water is elaking in from somewhere. look under the backseat itself, i bet its wet.

Smells like *** because mildew is building up?

Your fuel filter is near that area but I doubt it would somehow leak thru the metal underbody.

You might want to check to see if there is any water behind the plastic on the side of the car to see if water is somehow leaking thru the window or sailpanel area

we had that problem on my wifes 01 mmm z(unfortunately we traded it in dam we miss it), we lived in wv and where we lived the car was parked nose up in the drive way. when the snow started melting it some how ran down the firewall and drained into the back floor board. pull the drain plug from under the car and open the doors it will dry and air out. just spray the floor with febreze or shampoo the carpet and the smell will go away. at least it did for us

You also may want to check the weatherstripping around the rear hatch area and the t-tops.
