Right now I have about 6 different leather conditioners in my bucket. I have always liked the lexol products the best; the leather cleaner, conditioner, and plastic & vinyl protectant. However, I can't keep from trying new stuff. I really don't like the Megs conditioner, I find it to be too thick and it doesn't seem to keep for very long. I have used the Megs foam conditioner and I kind of like it, it is pretty light and doesnt leave much residue so it is good for a kind of quick leather detailer before the shows. Someone mentioned the Turtle Wax variety and I think it is pretty simmilar to the Megs gold class, just not as thick. I have the amorall, but am yet to use it (why use the cheap stuff when you have better stuff avaliable). I am getting ready to place a new order with zaino, and their leather cleaner and conditioner will be in my cart: I have heard it rocks.
The lexol does leave a kind of sticky residue, but you just need to let it sit for about 30 min and then wipe everything down again with a clean rag and you will be in business.

From my experience, saddlesoap is the best cleaner...i've been able to get out years of dye and dirt with it...it's not easy, but it's the only thing that seems to work.
For leather conditioner, i've been using Zymol's Z-509. It's a creme made from collagen and "neatsfoot oil", and it works spectacularly well. Has a very pleasant scent to it too.

different treatment
I have always used a heavily diluted batch of simple green to scrub. Then whatever lotion the wife has handy. I put it one heavy, let it sit in the sun for a few hours and wipe off all the excess. It has always worked wonders. Cheaper too.
