Default T-Handle Shift **** (Hurst)

Has anyone removed the stock T handle on 98-02 F bodies and replaces it with a Hurst t-bar shifter? I know the button mechanism on the side is there but didnt find any other t handles with that...any suggestions. I like the Hurst polished t handle.

those are the worst design possible for a manual shifter, but work okay for automatics. Why are they crap for 6-speeds? Because to be a fast shifter when racing, your hand position has to change each time to get the most accurate/quick shift. That handle sucks for this.

I've attempted to.
To get an aftermarket **** to work with the stock shifter you need to pick up an adapter.
You'll see what I'm talking about in this link: http://www.01pewterz28.cz28.com/shifter.html

The Hurst and the traditional B&M T-handles will work with the adapter.
The B&M Hammer T-handle **** WILL NOT fit the adapter.
Believe me, I tried 4 different ***** from 4 different places, none fit. And the **** was advertised for the exact thread the adapter was.
The only T-handle I liked was the Hammer, ultimately I wound up picking up a MBA ****.

yes but its not like it takes you 6 hours to change your shift handle, if your going to race just swap it out, but for looks, this handle looks awesome.

So no one has put on a hurst or B&M t handle to replace the stock A4 T-handle? See my release button it on the side of the t-handle not the top, have a 2000 T/A WS6. I'll keep looking, someone has had to do it..

I don't know if the Trans Am shifter mechanism acts the same as a Camaro, since the Trans Am shift button is on the side of the handle, and the Camaro is in the center of it. However, if it did, you could possibly get the T-Handle to work with a fabricated adapter. My MBA **** came with an adapter that clamps to the shift cable of the trans and is threaded on the other end of the adapter for the shift ****. On my 99, this was a white plastic cable that came through the center of the shifter handle. You could then screw the hurst t-handle onto this adapter and use thin alignment shims to get it like you want it. The only real problem I see is making the adapater, since MBA is no longer in business. I'm sure a machine shop could set you up with one.

The T-handle in the M6 cars is a cool retro look, but as far as function, I prefer a different handle as a few others have said. For me, its the Pistol Grip.

I had a T handle on my 6 speed and the biggest downside was that in the hot sun it would burn my hands. I switeched to the black 6 speed Hurst ball.

People have used T-handles to replace the stock ****, they used that adapter to do it.

You are not able to use any T-handle (that has to be threaded on) with the stock shifter without that an adapter.
Whether your button is on the side or on the top (like a Camaro) you will need that adapter.
Both of the shifters between f-bods are the same.

By pushing down on the ****.
Instead of pushing your button in on the side of the stock ****, you push down on the aftermarket one.
