Default Redoing tint, myself...plus great video tutorial inside.

So my tint is about 4 yrs. old and it was peeling up in a corner pretty bad, I decided to to it myself, got the tint and some basic tools. Just doing the sides, 20%, anyone have experience with this at all? I know it's an artform, but our side windows aren't too difficult. I got one side off with the ammonia, saran wrap, and razor blade method. Worked really good, but was messy still. I'll rip off the other side tomorrow and post my results, wish me luck.

BTW, I found a great tinting tutorial with videos, check it out!

Let us know how it goes. I've always paid someone to do it for me because I heard it was really hard to do right yourself but after watching those video's it doesn't seem that hard. The back window looks like it would be a huge pain but the front sides look as if they'd be pretty easy.

I tried doing the rear windows on a Caravan once... ended up with a big sticky, soapy mess, and balled up tint

If I had a digital camera I'd post some pics of my tint jobs, if you take your time and don't rush you can get nice results. But probly not the first time It took me three cars completely tinted until I had results I was proud of. Oh and get the spray stuff that takes the old off, it works. Make sure to clean the glass well especially the corners or they won't stick. An extra pair of hands is a must and LOTS of soapy water. Get yourself a decent squeegee. Auto Zone sells a kit with a dvd that's well worth the money. An f body will be a challenge due to the curved glass but if your careful you can get good results. Making a nice edge is the most important or it'll squeal at speed and look terrible. Use the outside to get yourself a decent starter before you peel the backing it'll save a lot of headaches. And don't be afraid to get aggressive with the squeegee cause you'll have to.

Well, I tried it, it didn't turn out well. I couldn't manage the tint and ended up with creases and I think what they call in the biz "fingers". Even a blowdryer wasn't much help. I ruined two rolls of tint and gave up and am leaving it to pros. I was working slow and am a pretty patient person. The cuts came out good but I just couldn't do it to a level that I would be happy with. Those guys make it look so easy. It's no wonder they can charge what they do.

BTW, I got the tint and all glue off with no problems. I can't stand tint not being on my car and will probably get it done tomorrow.
