Under hood and engine compartment cleaning?

Under hood and engine compartment cleaning? How do all of you clean and polish the undersides of your hood and other painted metal parts your engine compartments? The paint looks so dull under the hood and I would like to try and shine it up a bit. Do you just use wax or polish or something else?

Re: Under hood and engine compartment cleaning? I dont know about polishing or waxing (as I have a white car and does almost no good), but Ive said it a million times, and Ill say it again:
Be _VERY_,_VERY_,_VERY_, carefull about getting water from washing underneath the intake manifold, or you will be removing it very soon to fix your knock sensors. Ive done it, many others have done it. DONT DO IT. Doing all that work and then not getting anywhere but back to the way it was before sucks. Happy cleaning!

Re: Under hood and engine compartment cleaning? I wash my motor with a small sponge and the hose, is there any way to seal up the intake manifold so that I dont have anything to worry about? Luckily, I havent had a problem with messing anything up. If so, then I would assume that the SES light would come on. Thanks.
Re: Under hood and engine compartment cleaning? I clean mine with a steam machine and I have done this since i bought the car in 2000, I havent had any problems. I just make sure not to stay in one place to long and that everything is dry.

I ended up using a damp cloth and cleaned everything by hand on Saturday. My car has never seen rain, so it was fairly clean under the hood but there were some water spots from when I washed that car and some dust that came right off with the damp rag.
Although it is hard to tell from this picture, most of the dirt and grime came off and it looked pretty clean.
