Default getting rid of orange peel?

Anyone know the best way to get rid of the "orange peel" in
my paint? I don't know much about finish, so I'm stuck with
nasty paint.

If only real life were like photoshop...

Wet sanding, but I would stay away from that unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, otherwise the clear coat will be sorry...

The best grit to use is 2000 for doing this but like BIGBOS said, you'd better know what you're doing or you'll find yourself sanding right through the clear coat.

I hear most boddy shops won't even touch the factory paint where wetsanding to get rid of orange peel is concerned. I'd check with your local body shop first to see what they have to say. Personally, I wouldn't want to do it, and find that I've just f'ed things up worse than it already was.

joy! I'll have to look around and see if anyone can do
this for me. I don't wanna ruin anything. Although
I guess it could get *much* worse. hehe

The factory clear is thick enough for the everyday detailer who will never really polish but if you plan to keep your paint picture perfect and decide to wet sand you are really taking a chance. Polishing and compounding comes with keeping a car looking it's best if you plan to drive it and with a wet sanded clear coat your cutting in pretty deep.

Usally people wet sand in between layers of clear when they are getting their car re-painted. To just wet sand, compound, polish then keep the car like that .... it's scary.
