Plastic door strip removal
Who has removed the door protector strips? Is the finish salvageable underneath or will it require repainting? I don't like the way those thing look and would prefer the cleaner line without them.

I'm assuming you're talking about the body molding on the outside of the door? If so you can lust remove them and take the adhesive off with some bug and tar remover BUT......be absolutely certain you car has not been painted or the paint under the molding will not match and it will like hell on 4 wheels.

it's called the "side molding delete." do a search and you'll find a lot of great information. i've answered quite a few questions and have given advice to many of those threads.

All I did was take a hair dryer to the molding and heated it up a little. Then used some dental floss to start taking it off. Once it started to come off I used the hair dryer again to heat it up and pulled it off slowly. Once they where off I used the tar n bug remover on the glue that remained. Sprayed it on, let it set for a few minutes and wipe it off with a clean soft rag. Had to go back over with the tar n bug a couple of times. Hope that helps you out.

I've got a good heat gun and some 3M adhesive remover. Give me a few minutes to get this coffee down and I'll start in.

Piece of cake! If I'd known it was this easy I would have taken them off my other car a long time ago.
I warmed the entire side of the car with a sapce heater at a distance, dribbled a little adhesive cleaner along the trim, applied direct heat to the trim with a heat gun and then peeled it right off. I simple wipe with a clean rag and the door looks perfect!
Pictures to follow:
I'll leave the passenger side on for awhile to decide if I should replace the drivers side or remove the passenger side.

Yank em! I hated mine and pulled them off the 2nd year I owned the car and haven't looked back. I kept the moldings but doubt I'll ever put them back on for any reason.
