Default Adhesive removal

What is the most effective way to remove the adhesive film on your side windows after removing your tint? I bought a bottle of bug and tar cleaner and its not working well at all. I've heard ammonia is effective but I don't want any lingering smell in the car. Thanks for any help.

heat gun and a razor blade.

you can also try just a razor blade and some window cleaner too.

I'd try something like PPG DX-440, which is an adhesive, grease and wax remover that body shops use to clean the car's surface of that stuff before painting. It works great on adhesives like that, and it doesn't really smell. Problem is that it's sold by the gallon at about $40....your best bet may be to visit your local body shop and see if you could "borrow" a small quantity from them.

Try using nail polish remover. That will take it off. Use a cloth or better but small cotton ball. Be careful that you do not saturate the cloth the where it is dripping. The cotton ball will work best though.

When I got a ticket in my 96Z I bought a small kit from Auto Zone for $6 that had a spray bottle of tint remover and a razor blade. It worked pretty good you just have to keep repeating to remove all of the film. The cop inspecting it to clear the fix-it ticket said I did a good job and usually people rip the tint off and leave the film on there.
