Want to clean up my engine...
Want to clean up my engine... I've had my car for about three years now, and have never really cleaned up the engine after living on dirt roads for two years. Now I live on pavement and want to clean her up. Can anyone recommend how I can start on this? It's...UGLY under there.
I am afraid of messing up all the electrical connections. Any tips there help.

Re: Want to clean up my engine... Whatever you do, DO NOT spray water where the intake meets the top of the motor. The knock sensors are located there. I was cleaning my motor before I knew this and water will get under the intake and seep into the knock sensor holes. The SES light eventually went off and been fine ever since. No problems other than that. All of the connections are supposed to be water tight. Be very careful and keep water away from the knock sensors. Try to keep water away from the PCM too.

Re: Want to clean up my engine... i dont think theres any secrets here...just get some cleaner and get your elbow into it...i spend like an hour on mine this weekend and i have A LOT left...dont forget the hood too

Re: Want to clean up my engine... 2 options: 1.spend some $$$ and go to a detail shop for a steam clean. 2.cover major electrical components with seran wrap, spray the engine down with water, apply degreaser such as engine brite making such to brush down areas with heavy grit, spay down once again, then apply no touch tire shine. Done! Like Onyx said... WATCH OUT FOR THE GOODS!
