No lesson intended - or I would have went into more detail. I applaud your efforts - you can make good money in trim work.
I agree that vinyl is more durable than the leather that GM currently uses. I had to have my seat cushion cover replaced 2X and the backrest cover 1X under warranty due to the leather 'flaking' on the edges. I finally went with reupholstered covers from trim shop using much better quality leather (not italian though).
I have leather in my new BMW, and yes the standard vinyl simulated leather was 'almost' a perfect match to the actual leather grain and undicernable to the normal quick glance, but after spending that much $$ on a car I couldn't bring myself to having anyhting but real leather. The BMW leather is a much higher quality than what GM uses.

You get what you pay fore. If people was willing to pay 50000 or more $ for a new Camaro or Bird you would ,back in the glory days, definitive seen a improved interior e.g. material.

Yeah, I forgot about that - on the TA there are the 'corrugated' plastic panels that run down each side of the backrest with the top level seats - I was under the inpression that these panels are somehow sewn to the backrest cover...

I am really interested in this too. My TA came with tan interior and I have switched it all out with black except the seats. I'm going to subscribe to this thread and see where it goes.
