Question Interior plastic parts

Most of us I'm sure have problems with scratches and stuff on our interior plastic parts that are either on the door panels, center console or seats and I've heard that the best way to fix that is to use a heat gun, is it true does it really work? what else could be done to make those white marks disappear? thanks for your input, Jerome.

I think a heat gun would just warp/melt the plastic and screw up the grain in the process.
