Default Power antenna on a Camaro

Strange how even the most expensive version of the Camaro still comes with a POS radio antenna. Does the Pontiac power antenna fit right in on these Camaros? How much do they cost?

Tony, I've got a line on the best GM prices. I'll give you his info if you want it. He beats ANY GM Parts Price I have found to date.

Put a GM power antenna on mine in Dec 2000. Included a manual override switch. Still works great. An excellent install write up is at blackcamaro.com

I did this mod to my SS, but I didnt want the boring factory look, so I got a RKSport chrome one. It was only $99 and it works great. I chose chrome because I wanted it to stand out a little more and Ive got a chrome scheme going. On the 35th, I wouldnt go with the chrome just because there isnt any chrome. I would just stick with the OEM or get a RKSport black one. I wired up mine to go up and down when the radio goes on and off.

By the way, I took that pic when the car was dirty as you can see freakin' cat prints on it!

Sorta on topic...

Wanna know why 4th Gen Camaros never had power antennas?

Because they were the #1 warranty claim on Firebirds. They didn't want the problems/expense associated.

Got this info straight from the horse's mouth, so it's true

No, its because Camaros are viewed as the "cheap" version of the F-body. Based on my experience with both cars, the Pontiacs are much nicer in/out.

If that were true they wouldn't put them on Firebirds either.

I got the antenna w/ wiring harness from GMpartsdirect for $100 shipped...got the p/n's from blackcamaro.com. I'm glad I got the harness cause if the antenna ever has to be replaced, the wiring can just be unhooked, and easily swapped for a replacement.

jeez that looks like way too much jacking around to install the power antenna... I thought I read somewhere once that the Camaros had the power plug right there for the retractable antenna... I guess not.

Love my power antenna as well. The bracket that it comes with isnt long enough.. not sure if the verts are different from the coupes.. but I had to custom make a bracket. No biggie tho.
