Default Wide sunoco hood?

looking at hoods for my car and its either between the harwood or sunoco, then i stumbled across this "wide" sunoco hood and thought about it. but was wondering what are the notches up on the sides of the hoods for?

That's where the front fender sits and a 'normal' hood would stop there.
All the fiberglass after that notch is what makes the hood sit flush to the windshield.
You can see where the notches are in the second pic you posted.

Yea. The wide sunoco I believe is a pin on.. It wont open like a normal hood I dont think.. I think the hood is made more for racing cars so you can easily take the hood off to work..

going to the windshield prevents it from opening in a conventional manner.

I'm pretty sure you can trim them though. They say trim to fit on their site.

This pic gives you a good idea on how it mounts:
