Default has anything ever gone wrong with the I-Wire mod?

thinking about doing it to my TA and was just wondering if anyone has messed anything up doing it or if over time the wires have collected moisture from being in the wheel well and caused something to stop working.

please let me know of any possible problems of doing this mod.

also if anyone has any tips to help this go smoother please let me know as well.

thanks.

Ya know, I was telling my dad I wanted to do that next and he said the same thing about moisture. Maybe someone will chime in...

What would be the difference if you have it between the wheel well? If you tape it up real well you shouldn't have any problems. I've never had any problems with mine

you could always tape it up, then get large diameter wire loom and then tape that up too to create a sure-fit tight seal around it, with grommets sealed at both ends of the entry and exit points for the wire..

What I did, loom and tape. You won't have a problem. You'll have more moisture where its at in the engine than you will when its wrapped.

you're going to get more moisture where it sits in the engine bay then you do running it in the wheel well. My TTA has a harness that runs in the same area but lucky for me there were already holes to run it through the wheel well without drilling. Once you put the inner fender liner in there's very little water that would be coming in towards the top of it. Plus what little moisture that does come in will be running right down the fender liner and out of the car. Also, where the wires are run under the hood is right along the fender/hood gap which is not sealed. If you wash your car and open the hood you'll notice you'll probably have some standing water in the area.

Basically, I wouldn't worry about it at all. You mainly only need to worry about moisture at the ends of wires where it's bare for the connections, and it's going to see less moisture behind the fender liner than it's stock location.

I want to see pics of you LT1 guys that have done the wire mod. I'm thinking of doing everything at once when I replace the brakes. I want to replace the pads, WS6 store rotors, repaint my calipers and add Trans Am decals, wire mod, hood latch mod, and relocate the fuel lines.

Did mine 4 or 5 years ago (car was a daily driver up until last August) and never had any issues. Harness looked great still last time I had the wheels off and checked it out.

if you think about it, when you wash your car water collects right were the plugs are from the factory. those are water proof plugs. I still wrapped mine up in electrical duct tape just for good measure.

If you do it right.. and seal the wires right you will never have an issue.

My 2000 SS was the FIRST to ever do this and last I heard it's a'ok..

I just did mine today with no problems. I just need to find a rubber grommet to fit the 1"3/4 hole I drilled.

Water shouldnt be an issue if wrapped correctly. The only thing that would concern me is if you have a blowout on the right front the tire shreds could damage the wires. Sounds like a non issue, but working on cars as long as i have, you see some crazy stuff. Just food for thought.
