Default Sound Deadener Install

Today I decided to throw in some Damplifier from Second Skin

http://www.secondskinaudio.com/vibra...p?category=120

It cost around $64 with shipping for 20 square feet. It is very high-quality stuff. It's made of butyl rubber, so it adheres very well, and doesn't give off any smell at all, unlike asphalt based deadener.

It doesn't deaden the gear whine as well as I hoped, but it did make a noticeable difference, it's possibly quiet enough now that the wife will ride in the car with me.

On to the pics:

Here's the deadener itself. It comes in 12"x24" rectangles. I cut them down to 12" squares to make working with them easier.

I used a wooden hand roller I found in the Lowe's wallpaper section. It was $7. It worked really well for rolling this stuff down. The rounded handle worked well for smoothing tight spots.

Here's the install, in various stages. I did several double layers at different spots on the tunnel. I also did the bottoms of the rear seats.

If someone were looking for something for a stereo install, this would be the stuff. Easy to install, easy to work into tight spots, no smell.

Video showing the difference between deadener and no deadener:

Nice

Curious when you pull the carpet does it just come right out or is it glued and you have to rip it up and replace with new?

I used the same stuff and the SAME roller in my car.
The deadener is a great product.
I laid 160sq ft of it and still haven't touched the doors.

Nice pics.

It comes right out. It just helps to take every panel rear of the dash out. You have to remove all seats, belts, console, etc... to get the carpet out. Doing all that only took me about 30 minutes... but then I've done it several times now.

It's a little unwieldy to actually pull the carpet out by yourself, but if you fold it right, you can get it out just fine.

I bought some FatMat stuff off ebay that looks to be the exact same material only it has their logo printed on the foil. It came with a wood roller and knife. It didn't dampen the exhaust sound as much as I was hoping but it did cut down on road noise. I only did the rear trunk/hatch area on mine. I didn't think about taking any pics either when I was doing it.
