Default Good detailing starters pack?

Hey,

I just bought a black WS6 that has 86k miles on it and it shows. The cars needs some definate TLC. I was thinking about picking the following items. If anyone has any opinions about better deals or otherthings please let me know. Most of this stuff comes from properautocar.com. They seemed to have the best prices, but maybe some knows of a better deal out there?

1 Porter-cable 7424 ($96)

1 Menzerna Advanced Swirl Removal Kit with CCS Technology Pads ($68.95). Comes with:
16 oz. Menzerna Intensive Polish
16 oz. Menzerna Final Polish II
One 7.5 inch, CCS, Constant Pressure, Orange Power Pad
One 7.5 inch, CCS, Constant Pressure White Polishing Pad
Two Pocket Water Bottles
Two Power Scrubber Microfiber Applicators
Two Microfiber Wipe Cloths

1 Master Detailer Wash & Dry Package ($39.95). Comes with:
A 5 Gallon Wash Bucket
A Grit Guard
32 oz. of Eimann Fabrik Auto Spa Gentle Shampoo
A Microfiber Bone Wash Pad
A Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Sponge
A Big Blue III Drying Towel

1 BLACKFIRE PolyClay II Kit ($29.95). Comes with:
One 8oz. bar of PolyClay
16 oz. of Clay Lubricant
Two (2) Microfiber Power Scrubber Cloths

1 BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond Shine Kit ($54.95). Comes with:
1 16 oz. BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish
1 16 oz. BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond, All Finish Paint Protection
1 16 oz. BLACKFIRE Gloss Shampoo & Conditioner
2 Microfiber Applicator Pads
2 Microfiber Wipe Towels

The total comes just a bit north of $300 with shipping. I am very new to detailing, so from what I have been reading that should get me started. Anyone have any other suggestions?

All of that looks very familiar, for some reason.

There's nothing wrong with the stuff you've picked out. That would be an EXCELLENT arsenal of detailing products.

As an alternative, you might look into this:

PC polisher with backing plate and pads ($170):
http://www.tropi-care.com/product_p/tcpc-10.htm

Swirl Remover ($20):
http://www.tropi-care.com/product_p/tc-8.htm

Sealant ($14):
http://www.tropi-care.com/product_p/tc-3.htm

Claybar ($15):
http://www.tropi-care.com/product_p/tc-1.htm

Wash ($9):
http://www.tropi-care.com/product_p/tc-6.htm

That's $228 + shipping, but Tropi-Care is running a 10% off special right now: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/907281-tropi-care-10-off-orders-over-75-a.html

I've switched from Menzerna to Tropi-Care. I never got anything but great results using Menzerna, Zaino and/or Blackfire, but I switched for three reasons:
  1. Tropi-Care tends to be cheaper.
  2. They're a sponsor on LS1Tech.
  3. I can achieve the exact same level of results.
With all the above, the only other "specialized" thing you'll need is a good set of towels. I bought several towels from Pak Shak and they are still my favorite.

you can't go wrong with the Tropi-care stuff Mike mentioned above. That would be a very good starter package

Tropi-care also has some of the best customer service on the planet.

Give Steve a call and see what he recommends for you. He will treat you right, and won't try to cram crap you do not need down your throat.
