Question Berger Panel Questions!!

alright...so i'll probably be doing the berger panel on my car either today or tomorrow...i dont know if this is a stupid question but here it goes: do i have to sand the factory paint off or can i just spray over it and not worry about it chipping off?

Also any suggestions are welcomed...btw what kind of paint are you guys using; flat, semi-gloss or glossy and wat brand?? I have read some people that have done it do not use clearcoat on it, will it chip easily if you dont? Thanks fellas

You don't need to sand off the factory paint, just use a red scotchbrite pad & dull it down really good. Then clean it, prime it & paint it. (Probably don't need to prime it.)

I think semi gloss looks best...The last one I did, I used John Deere paint & it sprayed out the best of any rattle can I've ever used.

I used satin but it does have some good shine to it. Like Unstang said just scotch brite it, clean it off, and spray

some people have suggested wet sanding the factory paint off with either 400 or 800 grit paper...how much more work would it be to go this route and is it even worth it?

Not worth it, no reason for it.

I did the 800 wetsand on mine. It can be done in about 30 minutes depending on how aggressive you are. I took my time and got all the little nooks. I didnt take it all the way to the primer but scuffed it up really good and used a clear adhesion primer and used about 7 coats of semi gloss black. All rattle canned. Then applied the stainless. I did it over a couple of days. Let it dry good before you do anything.

make sure you get in the letters really good, otherwise it will start to chip.

i would say take the time to do it right, atleast wetsand it with 800 till there is no color left. No need to do a halfass job and end up having to worry about peeling in a year or 2

I kept the LPM one for my SS and bought one from the bone yard for it for $25 but I used the one on the Z. Pretty much just depends on what you wanna do.
