I need your input on redoing door inserts
First off, I went to the local auto upholstery shop. The guy told me a few things that stuck me as odd. First, he said that he doesn't recommend leather on the door inserts, because the sun will crack the material. Also, I wanted some embroidery on my headrests. He said that he could only do that if I was replacing the leather on my seats. He did say that he could do it on the door inserts.
Also, I thought the prices seemed a little high. He quoted me $100 per door for vinyl inserts, and $200
per door for leather, with embroidery on either. Does that seem high to anybody, or is it just me? Embroidering the headrest will require removal of the cover from the seats. I know of no other way to get the embriodery needle through the material.
To do this, it would likely be as cheap (maybe cheaper) to just recover them with the embroidered material.
As far as the price, It seems very reasonable for what you are asking.
I have a close friend and client that owns one of the biggest and oldest custom upholstery shope in the bay area. This is where i get the above information.
Good luck
I figured that the headrest embroidery would require the removal of the seat cover. I was a liitle confused, since he made it sound like he was only able to do it on a new seat cover.
