I removed all lenses from the car. I didn't wet sand before painting. I just rubbed them down with soapy water, rinsed & dried them, put on 3 light coats VHT to avoid running & then 5 coats Duplicolor Truck/SUV clear coat. I still need to wet sand & buff them but they look good & have held up to over a years daily driving & being outside year round without peeling or fading.

I just taped it off and painted it while it was one the car. I still need to clear coat them again. I ran out of clear coat pretty quick. I put around 10 coats all together. You can still see when I hit the brakes, so its all good.

Something tells me this would have been a lot easier if you had just taken the lights off the bumper..... A for effort though ;D

^^Yep. And I painted my center piece also so it would all have a matching finish. I also opted to keep the reverse lights clear so I can actually see at night in reverse. It really helped especially with tinted windows.

Did mine like Big Mike! Only I added Blue LED's to my Rear Backups! ha ha Mike!!! LOL
I did all of my lenses and I took them off....alot easier than masking off the whole back end of the car and the walls of my garage and the stuff in my garage...etc...
Heres Mine:

I used 2 cans VHT & 2 can clear between all side markers & entire tail section.

I'm goin LED back there but I want pure white. Also goin all LED interior since my interior is already under construction.

Sweet, thanks for the help guys, I did mine today, took me 1 can and half of another.
Today was a crappy day to do it, rained in the morning, then drizzled till about 2pm, then did it after it all got cleared up.
I'll finish the 3rd brake light and all corners some other time
