Default Peeling Chrome on Wheel Barrels

Hey guys,
I am doing a suspension/brake overhaul tomorrow on my car. While I am down there, I wanted to do something about the peeling chrome on my wheel barrels. I have 17" Z06 replica rims. I bought them used 3 years ago, and they have been doing this ever since. My question is... can I scrape this off without affecting the durability and appearance of the chrome on the actual face of my rim? I was going to take a small blade to it to clean it up a little bit. I figure this will make my wheels look better, and I will get my wheels rebalanced since they are slightly off due to this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your talking about the insides of your wheels right? I think if you get the peeling off much as you can, and maybe hit it with a polish if you can get enough off, it'd look a lot better. A friend of mine did that on his POS ultra wheels he had on his truck, and they turned out pretty good.
