Chrome Wheels Painted Can chrome wheels be painted over? I have heard both yes and no. For the yes answer the wheels need to cleaned, ruffed up with 400 grit paper, primed, and then painted. I am thinking about painting the inner sides of a set of wheels I have. Before I start I would like to make sure it can be done.

Here's what a friend of mine did:
He had a set of 3 piece all chrome wheels on a C6, and wanted the lips painted to match the color of the car.
Body shop disassembled the wheels, stripped ALL the chrome off the lip, prepped and painted, then assembled the wheels back together and it turned out great.
I'd highly recommend stripping the chrome before you paint them. A shop should charge around $100/wheel to do it. If you don't then you will regret it.

painting the chrome isn't recommended, but it can be done. Getting them chemically stripped is the best way, but if you're trying to just paint the lip or center, that's out the question. Rough them up good with some 320 and self etch prime them. Then you can spray your paint. There's no guarantee, but that works decent
