IMO I would be looking at the bump stops and the lock.. Mine does not pop hard and I have no latch. Again good luck adjustments or new struts...

This is correct!

If your scared about the struts you can always take one off, but I and the entire Sunoco hood community can tell you, your stock struts are perfectly safe. If this hood was just recently purchased, you have nothing to fear. The movement you are experiencing is totally normal.
When I release the hood to open it , it pops up pretty hard and fast like the latch is holding it down tight how do I correct this?

Now when I open the hood without a latch in place it just barley pops open. I then just have to lift the hood (no latch). I would have put the latch back on but since it just barley pops open what is the point. If it flew open I would probably put the latch back on to stop that from happening.
How did you go about removing the latch? The latch has too much pressure for the sunoco.

It's not the struts it is the latch when I pop it open when inside the car it unlatches pretty hard. Trying to figure out how to remove the latch it's too strong.

At work here and dont have the Z in front of me. If I can recall it was just two bolts holding the latch to the inner body. I will look when I get home maybe take a picture or 2.

It looks like if I took out those two bolts the whole thing comes out even the lock where the cable is connected to release it. How do you just take out the top piece that is where all the tension is.

ok I just took out one strut the stronger of the two and it goes up and down much easier. Now I just need to cut out the top arm on the latch because it pops open way to hard anyone know an easy way to do this?

We do reinforce the strut areas on our hoods, but if you feel more comfortable going with a different strut...Brian has posted the part number for struts that will work with our hood.

I personally have used the factory struts for the last 2 years with no problems. However, lighter struts would be nice for how hard the hood pops up. I also wouldn't mind it to shut on its own like the factory hood did.

I just took out one strut and it opens and closes perfectly smooth with no tension at all. Now as far as the hood popping up hard when releasing it's not the strut it's the top metal piece in the latch area that has alot of pressure to it just cut it off it's useless with the lighter hood. The hood will still lock you just give it a little push.
