Default Rock damage on windshield

Does anyone know what can be done to fix small pits left from rocks that have hit your windshield? I have thought about trying an epoxy, but I know it would not look right.

I hate these things - both of them that I got came from rocks that flew off the back of dump trucks <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0"> <img src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" border="0" alt="[guns]" />

FWIW

I had my windshield replaced for $308 with a new one after it got cracked by a flying rock. Shop around if it comes to replacing because the prices vary a lot my high quote was over $600

Fortunately it is not close (I think) to windshield replacement time. No cracks, just two hollow pits from rock dings. All the same, thanks for the advice on the replacement. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have to replace the thing. Given everything else that is being replaced (engine, clutch, driveshaft, rearend, intake, exhaust, suspension), it is kind of small in the scheme of things.

I am not sure of the actual brand names, but I do know that there are products out there that you can buy at a pep boys or auto zone that you apply the the nick and it will buff out like you would if you had a scratch on your paint. There is a variety of diffrent kinds you can buy. I would look into this as a first option. I know that Shade Tree Mechanics did a show on the stuff a while back, so it does work...Good Luck

In some states, your insurance handles windshield replacements without a deductible because it is considered a safety issue.

Just a comment if the dreaded crack-creep happens to you. <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">

Hey guys - thanks for the tips! This board is awesome <img src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" border="0" alt="[hail]" />

I will be calling my insurance company (Progressive - I used to have USAA, who I knew did cover this stuff, but they were simply too expensive compared to Progressive). If this fails, I'll be taking the trip to Autozone shortly.
