Default Speaker replacement info needed

One of my factory dual-coil subwoofers decided to blow and I am shopping for replacements. These are the speakers next to the rear seats on our Pontiac Monsoon systems, they are dual-coil (4 ohm each coil, wired in parallel = 2 ohm per speaker) and are approximately 6-3/4" size.

Anyone replace these with some better subs yet? Do they even make something similar out there? I'm not looking to spend $$$ for a set of fancy components, I've been perfectly content with the factory setup in this car. Its actually my first car that didn't have a multi-thousands of dollars competition level system installed.

Or, does anyone in the Houston area have their stock subs removed from their pontiac and want to get rid of them? I'm not sure if the Camaros have the same setup.

I thought about this too, but my interior ratles enough with the stock monsoon system. <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0"> JL audio makes a subwoofer aproximatley that size. I think maybe its 6.5 inches. Check out www.jlaudio.com

Yup, I double checked. JL makes a 6.5" subwoofer in the W0, W3, and IB4 series. If your going to be running the stock amps, i'd imagine that the W0's would work just fine. I also imagine that they would fit with little or no modifications. Be sure to tell me what you do, 'cause i'm interested in doing this myself!

Image Dynamics makes a 6.5 that is supposed to be pretty awesome. It comes in 4 or 2 ohm models. I hear it is picky about the enclosure though.

Kicker also makes a 6.5 woofer. They seem to be less picky about enclosure but is only available in 4 ohm....

Your best bet is probably get a factory replacement one from somebody, somewhere. That way you don't end up with the snow ball effect that comes with just trying to replace one thing....

I would think that if you put a "real" sub in there, you would have to add a lot of weight in sound deadening material to keep the rattling from sounding like crap. IMHO, getting a new set of stockers would be best.
